Competencies:

What is a Competency? A competency is a statement of the knowledge, skills and/or behaviors students must master in a specific content or performance area. They explicitly explain the expectation for what a learner should be able to know and do. A competency statement represents essential, enduring, transferable concepts that are at the upper end of knowledge taxonomies such as Webb’s strategic thinking or Blooms’ analyze, evaluate and create.

ePortfolios have the potential to be great tools and demonstrations of learning as long as we can find an easy-to-use free platform that students could take ownership of, and take with them as they moved from from elementary to high school and beyond. Langwitches has great ideas and links about ePortfolios on her blog.

Badges







In order to create a portfolio of learning, students will be given badges as they complete an open project, module or course.
Badges can be used towards an ADLC competency certificate or Alberta Education Course credit.
Badges are offered as an "accreditation" system for learning that can be outside Alberta Education curriculum or within Alberta Education Curriculum.
